Beddy says, “Don’t Speed!” - Your Pledge To Stick To The Speed Limit
Statistically one in seven people break the speed limit (RTA Consult) and as Road Safety Week approaches, the road safety initiative, Beddy, is urging Yorkshire drivers to stick to the speed limit.
Beddy, launched by national logistics provider Bedfords Transport, is a scheme aimed at educating 5-7 year olds about road safety. Beddy says, “Don’t Speed!” is encouraging drivers to stick to the speed limit for Road Safety Week, commencing 22nd November. To pledge their support, the Beddy initiative is asking Yorkshire drivers to sign up to the website and agree they will stick to the speed limit during that week.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) reveals that people who speed contribute to over 70,000 speed related accidents every year, which kills around 1,100 people and injures 12,000.
According to RTA Consult, one in 20 road accidents are caused by a driver who is speeding and the faster someone is driving the more risk there is of an accident occurring.
Beddy says, “Don’t Speed!” has support from the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership. In 2009, 530 people were killed or seriously injured on South Yorkshire’s roads, the lowest figure since records began. The campaign aims to continue to reduce the amount of drivers who speed, especially throughout Road Safety Week but also encourage drivers to change their driving habits.
Steff Pfadenhauer, Managing Director of Bedfords commented: “In Road Safety Week we are hoping that Yorkshire drivers will show their support by sticking to the speed limit. The Beddy initiative is an ongoing campaign that aims to educate children, however encouraging drivers to think about the dangers reinforces the aim of the scheme.”
Drivers can sign up to support Road Safety Week by visiting www.beddy.co.uk/dont-speed.php and filling in their name and email address.
