Charity seeks Easter bunny bikers

Mar 09 2009

The Children’s Hospital Charity is on the lookout for big hearted bikers this spring, to join motorcycle champion James Toseland for the 10th annual Easter Egg Run.

James, who is world super bike champion and a current MotoGP rider, will lead bikers through Sheffield before delivering eggs to the city’s Children's Hospital.

The event, which will take place on Sunday 15 March 2009, is organised by Three Shires Honda Owners Club in partnership with South Yorkshire Police. The ride will start at South Yorkshire Police Operations Complex on Europa Way at 10.00am, but bikers can arrive from 8.30am.

The convoy will then travel through Attercliffe, The Wicker, and West Bar before arriving at Weston Park, opposite The Children's Hospital, at around 10.20am.

Those who would like to join in just need to turn up on the day and pay £2 to ride, which will go to The Children’s Hospital Charity.

David Vernon-Edwards, Director at The Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “We are extremely lucky to have James supporting the run and we hope that bikers take up this great opportunity to ride with a world champion and at the same time support a fantastic charity.”

James Toseland said: “I have been taking part in the Easter Egg Run for a few years now and really enjoy meeting the other bikers and the children and staff at the hospital.

He added: “For bikers, the event offers a perfect opportunity to meet people with a mutual interest and raise money for a really worthy cause.”

Last year the event attracted over 150 bikers and raised £5000 for the charity. The money was put towards an exciting project which aims to put integrated educational and entertainment systems at each child’s bedside. The systems, which have already been installed on six wards, allow hospital teachers and play specialists to work with the children and keep them up to speed with their school work. They also offer Sky TV, radio, telephone and internet access, which not only enable patients to communicate easily with their families and friends but also assist in their social development.
