SKY’S THE LIMIT FOR BIKER SAFETY
SOUTH Yorkshire Police’s helicopter will take to the skies this weekend in a bid to stop speeding motorcyclists in their tracks.
The Force’s chopper will be used as part of a range of tactics aimed at making bikers slow down and stay safe during the bank holiday.
The helicopter will be used over stretches of the A57 which leads into Derbyshire and the A19 to

Said head of the Force’s road policing group, Chief Inspector Ian Bint: “With good weather forecast this weekend we’re expecting the roads to be very busy.

“Many bikers enjoy their recreation within the law, but there are a number who set out with the deliberate intention of riding at ridiculously high speeds on the public road and we will deal robustly with these people.”
The helicopter’s crew will video evidence of traffic offences such as dangerous driving and overtaking on double white lines.
In addition, there will be extra traffic police and Safety Camera Partnership staff on patrol across the county.
Continued Ch Insp Bint: “This campaign is being run in conjunction with the four local authorities and the Safety Camera Partnership. We are also promoting Bikesafe to increase riders’ skills, besides supporting the national THINK campaign to educate motorcyclists about the dangers they face.”
